1. Pattern of Dyslipidaemia in Lean, Rural, Geriatric Population in Relation to Coronary Artery Disease T Saravanan, SM Rajendran Aims : To study the pattern of dyslipidemia in rural lean geriatric population in relation to coronary artery disease patients. We studied lipid profile in 100 patients of lean (BMI < 25 kg/ m^2), Geriatric (Age > 60 years), rural population with coronary artery disease. Out of 100 patients, 56 were male and 44 were female. Among them 46 were diabetic and 54 were non diabetic. We studied fasting lipid profile (overnight fasting of 6 hrs) in 100 patients. Among them 47 had total CHL > 200 mg/dl, 55 had Sr. TGL. 150 mg/dl, 32 had LDL > 110 mg/dl, 20 had HDL < 40 mg/dl. Among 55 patients who had TGL. 150 mg/dl, 40 were diabetic and among 20 patients who had HDL < 40 mg/dl, 14 were diabetic. Conclusion : Though we have been aware of abdominal or
truncal obesity to be the risk factor for development of
dyslipidaemia and CAD, increasing TGL and decreasing HDL
seems to play a major role in development of CAD in geriatric
diabetic patients with lean body mass.
